NCSU Veterinary Volunteer Service Corps Big Trash Haul
The NCSU Veterinary Volunteer Service Corps had a perfect Saturday for a trash cleanup. The sky was blue, the air crisp, the trees bare and the trash plentiful along Kirks Creek accessed from Jordan Dam Rd (see map). Led by CJL's David Field and Mike Mansbach, 13 volunteers divided into two tracks to remove 45 bags of trash and 3 tires from 1/2 mi.
Our records show the last cleanup being done here in June 2019. Since then, heavy rainfalls have caused the lake to rise by 12 ft in Feb, 11 ft in May and 10 ft in Nov. Our bag count showed that each rainfall deposited about 2 bags of trash per 100 ft of shoreline.
