designed to clean habitually littered shoreline access points

Our Adopt-A-Shoreline Program is ideal for civic and religious groups, high school clubs and classes, boating clubs and business establishments. A sign as in this photo will be posted on each adopted section of shoreline to acknowledge the responsible organization. View a Summary of Cleanups by Adoption Groups in past year.

How It Works

The sites are easily accessed by foot paths from the road. See map below for adopted sites and those still available. We are open to suggestions for other sites, too. Once you submit the Adopt Your Shoreline form we will contact you to confirma site selection.

We provide access to our storage unit for cleanup supplies.  A minimum of three participants is needed for each cleanup. You schedule the cleanups. Just let us know in advance so we can post on our EVENTS page.  The typical time required to remove litter from a section is about two hours.

Requirements for Participation

  • Adoption Site Agreement Form after we’ve agreed upon the Adoption site

  • Leader must be at least 18 years old

  • Three year commitment

  • Four to ten members (exceptions on case by case basis for larger groups)

  • Three cleanups per year, preferably in early spring, mid-summer and early fall.  School groups can choose a schedule to fit the academic year.

  • Proper clothing - closed toe shoes and gloves required; long pants, long sleeve shirt and hat strongly recommended

  • Trash bags brought a nearby Chatham County Collection Center or if not convenient, can be left at location designated by CJL for later pick up

  • Reports to Clean Jordan Lake on number of trash bags collected, number of volunteers and any interesting items of trash
