What a weekend of volunteering for Clean Jordan Lake! It started with Small Group Cleanup No. 4 at the Tailrace, where water exits the lake via the dam (see last post). On Friday morning, 13 volunteers pulled and tugged on fishing line snagged along the rocks while picking up bottles, cans, lures, etc. enough to fill 22 bags just from careless recreational use.

At the same time, the RES.us Adopt-A-Shoreline group was likewise busy under and around the north end of the bridge on Beaver Creek Rd near Ebenezer Church Boat Ramps. With just 7 volunteers, this group removed a whopping 29 bags of trash. That included at least 25 propane canisters left by careless night fishermen (canisters used to fuel lanterns).

On Saturday morning, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro YMCA Leaders Club brought 11 volunteers to Kirks Creek near Poes Ridge Boat Ramps and 4 more volunteers joined them. They removed 20 bags of trash and 2 tires. This came from rainfall on the watershed.

On Sunday morning, the NC Geocachers Adopt-A-Shoreline group removed trash from the middle section of Wilderness Island. This energetic group has held their adoption site since 2012! With just 4 volunteers, they removed 27 bags of trash AND 21 TIRES! This came from rainfall on the watershed.

For totals, 39 volunteers removed 98 bags of trash and 23 tires. Just amazing work for which the lake should be grateful.

Our hard working volunteers removed 37 bags of trash and 5 tires (not all shown in photo) from 0.3 miles in under 2 hours! That included hauling the stuff hundreds of yards through the woods back to a service road and the Ebenezer Church Beach parking lot.
